Very Vogue!

What do you when you fall in love with a picture (Vogue 1963, I believe), because its colors are so perfect, so balanced, so retro, so classic? You create a colorway and you name it Ombrelles. These colors make me dream, ocean blues, reds, berry pinks, and peach.

I hand-painted 2 SW Merino sock weight skeins in the Ombrelles colorway, and a beautiful cashmere blend in a sock weight. I have just added them to my Etsy Store.
Can you imagine a pair of socks knit in this colorway? Real sunshine in winter!

Questions For You

When I look through my photos I always find a billion sunset photos. I guess I am just fascinated with the New Mexico skies.

Today I'm looking for some recommendations from everyone.

I've decided to buy myself a knitting basket. I want something that looks good in the living room, will sit on the floor, and is large enough for colorwork projects (let's say 10-20 skeins of yarn). I like some of the Pottery Barn choices but for the size I need the price is too high to pay for something that Bubbles might be tempted to chew. (I don't think she will - she is quite a well-behaved rabbit - but you never know.) Can anyone recommend something for me? I think I'll go check at Pier 1 and Cost Plus the next time I'm in town. I know there are specialty knitting baskets as well which would work as well.

Also, I'm seeking some fingering weight 100% cashmere in a solid color (pale lavender or periwinkle) to make myself a pair of really long gloves. Can anyone recommend a good source? I am looking for a high quality smooth plied yarn that doesn't shed if such a thing is possible.

Hand-dyed Surprises for Tomorrow!

As you may have noticed, I have not dyed yarn in a long time. But this week, I finally did. It was so exciting to play with colors again.

I approached dyeing just seeking to please my hunger for color. I created colorways to match the fibers, and picked fibers to flatter the colorways and reflect the textural qualities of my inspirations. I will have only a couple skeins available in each colorway, and the colorways will vary by fiber. There will be soft haloed alpaca blends and cashmere blends, luxurious silk blends, and seacell blends.

I chose to paint sunsets in Tuscany inspired by one of my favorite novels, Room with a View.

For Sunset over the Arno, I picked an Alpaca blend, seeking to capture not only the colors but also the hazy texture of the Tuscan evening air after a warm summer day.

I hope you will join me tomorrow, Sunday, to enjoy the romantic sunsets of Tuscany.
